Hi, I'm Brenda Meyer, the Middle School Technology Coordinator of an independent school in Houston, TX.
I have followed the Iditarod for years--first with 6th graders at another independent school in Houston--now with 8th graders.
We are interested in learning not only about the Iditarod but also about others who live in other parts of the world. It's amazing how much we have to learn!
We are podcasters here and will be interested in the Bering Strait podcasters as they broadcast the race.
Thanks for putting the project together!
Hi Fellow "Racers"!!! We are a homeschooling family from Pittsburgh, PA. This is our first year doing the e-race and we are very excited! Only my two oldest will be doing actual "work" and the younger ones will just be playing along with us! My children are 10, 7, 5, 3, 3 & 11 months. Nice to meet all of you!

Hi everyone, I'm Lori D. in Alberta Canada! We are a homeschooling family who love sled dogs so my 2 boys 11 and 3 are going to really enjoy this project. This is our first year but I can see us doing this for many more years to come. I wish there were more projects like this on the internet it's our favorite way to learn!! Thank you to all the organizers and participants I look forward to doing this project with all of you. Lori D.
Hello!
This is our second year of following the race. We homeschool 1st grade and pre-school in Nashville, TN. Last year we enjoyed making our sleds and origami husky dogs. Making and hanging snowflakes all over the house to get in the mood. When it was race time we made Mushers Munch, snuggled up and watched the race begin. The kids enjoyed moving their musher to the differnent checkpoints and sending their musher a message of encouragement along the trail. We are looking forward to another great race.

Hello - We are a homeschool family in southern California. This is our second year. We had a good time last year as well making the projects. I think our favorite was the sugar cube igloos! Of course watching the clips and tracking our musher was the most fun. My dd who will be seven the end of the month has been "training" our dogs ever since to be sled dogs. I just watch and laugh since we have NO snow. By the was we are transplants from MN - I tell my dd she should move back there to train. We are both really excited to get started. Thanks Walter for all your work!!

We have followed the race last year, but I didn’t know about this web site until yesterday. We are looking forward in sharing this experience with everyone here. Thank you Walter for all you have done and are doing.

Hi everyone, this is our second year following the race too! We homeschool in sunny FL - traveled to Alaska on a family trip several years ago so this project always brings back nice memories! Following the iditarod in a homeschool environment is great fun: My 12 yr. old especially enjoys researching, then selecting a musher and tracking his/her team on a wall map... can't wait! Thanks a bunch, Walter!!

Hi,
We are Jenny and Chris Kelly. We homeschool and have 8 special needs kids. This is our second year following the Iditarod. We might try a lap book this year.
Happy New Year!
I teach the 4th-8th graders in a small rural school in California. I have 24 students this year and I am really excited to have the opportunity to join this group. We followed the Iditarod last year and I developed an entire curriculum for the month that included studentets chosing individual mushers, creating miniature sleds with cute dogs created from rocks and felt. There were many fun resources available it was the best month in our class. I am thrilled about this new Iditarod journey.

Good evening from North West Georgia! It is a warm, moist, 69 degrees now and I longingly look at the pictures of all the snow out west. I homeschool 3 of my 6 daughters now but only the youngest is "doing" this lesson -- officially. The rest of us are following along for the fun of it. This is our first year and we look forward to all we will be learning about Alaska, the Iditarod, and the indomitable spirit of the mushers. I -- uh, I mean we, can hardly wait!

We will be using iBooks to research and make lapbooks for this years race (thanks to everyone who has helped me with the directions!). We also podcast with 8 iPods that we have. I am hoping to integrate this into the our unit of study as well. We just received our Cabela's poster and this got the kids excited to learn what the Iditarod is about. Can't wait to get started!!!

Hello everyone,
I'm Nada Lepper and teach third and fourth grades in a small, K-8 public school in Maine.
I've followed the race with students this age for more than ten years, although this is my first year with the elditarod project.
In March 2005 I traveled with my students to Alaska and saw the start in Anchorage and spent time in McGrath as mushers came through that checkpoint.
I'm looking forward to new experiences (podcasting is one in particular) and communicating with others who share my passion for the Iditarod.
Hello! I have participated in the race in the past when I taught 6th grade at an elementary school in a self-contained classroom and my students loved it. I have transferred to a middle school and now teach four science classes with a total of 110 students. It will be a challenge; however, if I put them in groups for each class, I think it will work. I received 30 laptops from an anonomyous donor which will help tremendously. I'm looking forward to sharing with everyone.

Hi Everyone,
This is also our second year, and we are looking forward to joining in with all of our energy (now that we know a bit more!). We are a homeschoolin/unschooling family from Michigan where there is NO snow! Hoping to get some and catch some local mushing along the way.
Thanks to Walter for creating such a sight and for all the work that goes into organizing this.
Looking forward to an exciting Iditarod!

Hi! I'm Esther and I Home School my daughter 6.5 and my son 4.5. We live on the outskirts of Edinburgh, Scotland. I heard about this through one of my chat groups and thought it would be a great project for us... we like 'real life' projects where the learning doesn't seem like 'work' because it is part of appreciating something happening around us. We know we will be so much more knowledgeable in no time... we're not even sure we're pronouncing the word Iditarod correctly at the moment!
We are excited to be following this race again this year. Last year was the first year that we followed this as a homeschooling family. I love the flexibility of the project overall and the fun we had with the different art/craft projects along the way. Last year we followed just one musher (who ended up winning), but we all realized throughout the race that it really wasn't about winning, or even about finishing all the time, but about always trying your best. A great, real life place to learn that lesson.

Hi all. I am a homeschooling mom of one 9yo dd. We saw the movie Eight Below and my daughter fell in love with the dogs. I found out about the eIditarod on our hs web site and told her about it. She is excited about getting started and would love to have a Husky of her own. I think it is a bit warm (especially this year) in FL for such a dog. I appreciate the opportunity to share in the experiences with the racers. Thank you.

This is also our second year following the race. We are a homeschooling family in Maryland with 6 yo dd and 12 yo dd (in public school). We followed four mushers last year, three rookies and 1 veteran. One of our best memories was receiving emails from the mushers we selected. And our great disappointment was when Ben Valks, a musher we had followed, was disqualified. I enjoyed reading the many ideas and activities that were shared by participants in this group last year. And I truly enjoyed watching Jeff King finish the race live at 4:00 a.m. EST on Iditarod Insider!

I am a homeschooling Grandma with 3 grandkids that "I'm" homeschooling in Michigan. (have 5 more hs grandchildren in another area of Michigan) We followed the Iditarod last year for the first time and had a great time! Our musher that we had last year, Ed Stielstra, just posted that he has had to withdraw due to the fact that the Upper Peninsula has had very little snow in order to do the needed training. It's been an extrememly mild winter in Michigan thus far. Mush on!

Hello everyone! I teach at a Pre-K through 2nd grade school in a southwestern suburb of Chicago. I looped with my first grade class into second grade this year. One unit of study that they all wanted to continue was on the Iditarod. I have been teaching about the Iditarod since my first visit to the Race in '95. I also have attended Diane Johnson's wonderful Winter Teacher's Iditarod Conference. I am always looking for new ideas, especially this year since I have my same class and don't want to repeat anything! I just happened to stumble across this project and am anxious to get started!

How great to see all of you following the race, some for the first time. I'm a library teacher in MA, following the Iditarod for the 12th year! I love it, and so do the students who come into the library. Each grade level follows a musher, and we move them along daily on our wall map. Great fun! And we learn about Alaska and its wildlife.
Enjoy the race!

Hello, fellow eIditaroders! This will be the fourth year I've participated in the race with my classroom (3rd, 4th, or 5th grade). It is an exciting way to integrate subjects and get students involved in a project that extends their thinking beyond our hometown of Hickory, NC. We always celebrate at the end with a Red Lantern Party! The best part for me is that I always learn so much right along with my students. Looking forward to another great race!
